When printing checks in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, there are a couple settings to be aware of. The following steps will guide you through selecting the correct check stock and printing the checks during payment journal processing.
Step One: Double-Check the Check Stock
First, select the proper format to match your pre-printed check stock. Use the global search to open the Report Selection – Bank Account window:
Select Check in the Usage field. The default format is 1401 but the other formats are available per below. These will match the most common pre-printed check stock formats. I have selected the Stub/Check/Stub format for this example:
Step Two: Choose the Correct Vendor and Invoice
Next, go to Cash Management > Payment Journals. I have a default payment journal titled CHECKS with the following settings:
You can manually select the vendor and invoice for payment, or go to Prepare > Suggest Vendor Payments.
Enter a Last Payment Date (invoices that have a due date before or on this date will be selected).
It is also recommended to mark “Check Other Journal Batches” so it will not include payments that exist in another journal batch.
I have selected two invoices for payment.
Now, make sure the Payment Method Code is set to CHECK.
Also make sure the Bank Payment Type is set to Computer Checks.
Go to Check > Print Check.
Step Three: Print (or Reprint) Checks
If you have printed this check, but need to reprint it, select the Reprint Checks option (the original check number will automatically be voided).
Click Send To PDF Document.
The checks will print using the format selected (in this case Stub/Check/Stub).
The “Check Printed” box will now be marked. The checks may now be reprinted, voided, or posted at this point.
Click Check > Print Check to reprint the check. Click Check > Void Check to void the it completely.
Or click Post/Print > Post and print to post the check and print the journals.
