User adoption of any new system can be painful – and that’s true for Dynamics CRM too, now called Dynamics 365. However, with Learning Paths, Microsoft has taken what was once a clunky, disjointed experience and make it slap-you-in-the-face simple.
What is it?
Microsoft Dynamics Learning Paths – context-sensitive, role-specific pop-ups right in Dynamics 365 / CRM.
For example:
- Walkthrough examples
- Videos
- Articles
- Custom pages
Learning Paths are completely customizable and are an easy way to quickly onboard and train new team members. You can point out new features, or walk someone through a process via step-by-step instructions or even videos, increasing effectiveness and user adoption. Think of it as your own personalized guided help system, without the annoyance factor.
Guided Tasks and Sidebars
There two types of Learning Paths:
- Guided Tasks – a series of steps to guide a user on how to do common or new tasks. In the green box, users click on the next arrow, and it guides them through a process.
- Sidebars – displays when a user clicks “Help”. These sidebars can be links to a page, button, or an error message. Additionally, you can embed videos and other useful information in them.
Oh and did we mention that Microsoft includes some pre-built learning path content that you can choose to display? You can add it to your own content, or just use it as-is. You can set the content to display based on an error in usage, (think “you don’t have permission to do this task” or a specific role, or a certain page load).
To get started with Learning Paths, you will have to be using Dynamics 365, have the December 2016 update, and have opted in for Learning Paths. Detailed instructions can be found here.
